Are Smoothies Good for Weight Loss?

I'm giving you THE BEST 35 Smoothie Recipes for weight loss.  They literally taste amazing!  

The most common question I get "are smoothies good for weight loss?"  Legit question, you wouldn't want to start blending smoothies daily if it's going to add inches to your waistline vs. helping you lose unwanted weight. 

When done right, smoothies can help with weight loss.  In fact, it typically does result in weight loss just due to the fact it's replacing missed meals.

When someone consults with me for nutrition help, one of the major indicators that causes their metabolism to slow down is missing meals.

One of the other common offenses is having too many carbohydrates in the nutrition daily and not enough protein.  You'll notice that each of these recipes starts with protein as it's a staple for getting lean, losing bodyfat, and toning up.

#1: Peach Raspberry Cooler Smoothie Recipe

 

  • 2 scoops vanilla flavored protein powder 
  • ¼ cup frozen peaches
  • ¼ cup frozen raspberries
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • ½ tbsp. almond butter
  • 1-2 ice cubes 

Place all ingredients in a blender and pulse blend until desired consistency is reached.

 

#2: Strawberry Kiwi Burst Smoothie Recipe

 

  • 2 scoops strawberry flavored protein powder
  • ½ cup frozen strawberries
  •  1 sliced kiwi
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 tbsp. ground flaxseeds
  • 1-2 ice cubes

Place all ingredients in a blender and pulse blend until desired consistency is reached.

How Many Protein Shakes Should I Drink A Day to Lose Weight?

If you're missing multiple meals per day, I would recommend replacing two meals with a shake.  The ones that I use are full meal replacements; they aren't just a protein shake.  They have a source of protein, carbohydrates, healthy fats, and amino acids (the building blocks for lean muscle).  

Do Fruit Smoothies Make You Gain Weight?

Fruit smoothie have the ability to make you gain fat and yes, gain weight.  Reason why?  Fruit smoothies (without protein) are 100% carbohydrate based.  We have two sources of energy in our nutrition:  

1.  Carbohydrates

2.  Healthy fats

When you take in more carbohydrates than needed for exertion at the time you will store the rest as energy.  This storage usually results in an increase of bodyfat.  This happens when it is a daily occurrence and a habit.

If your nutrition is very carbohydrate heavy then you'll likely be gaining weight and bodyfat and not understand why.
